The review presents current research both national and foreign authors about rheumatoid arthritis (RA). RA is a multifactorial autoimmune idiopathic disease. Many reasons are involved in its development: immuno-genetic, hormonal, viruses and bacteria. The necessity of studying the climatic and geographical features of the RA flow is justified. Data on the effect of RA on the course of pregnancy and its role in the formation of infertility in men and women are also presented. Modern aspects of diagnosis and treatment are given.

Key words. rheumatoid arthritis, autoimmune disease, viruses, bacteria, methotrexate, cyclophosphane
